So someone asked me, “Is it possible to convert an introvert to an extrovert?”
This was my answer;
Truth be told, I wanted to do the same. While it’s not impossible, you have to know that it’s so hard, exhausting and consumes energy. But it could really be worth the hassle depending on what you want in your life.
Three years ago I was desperate to be an extrovert and I tried things like going out with friends, going to places where I never have been, trying out activities, photography and etc.
During this time I have learnt about myself a lot, about society a lot and learnt how to embrace how I am constructed and get the best out of it.
What can you do?
Some things can be changed, and some things can’t. Keep pushing your limits and it takes a very long time to get used to something that you are not, and you keep falling back. BUT don’t be discouraged, do the same again and again, while taking your time. But don’t waste your time either.
We definitely can come to somewhere middle.
Learn your personality and keep learning and get advice from introverted elders or peers.
Even though we all are introverts, not every introvert is similar. MBTI personality typing and cognitive functions will give you a good direction to find out who really you are even though no categorisation is complete.
After all those things being said, I have to say this too.
Self study
I self-studied and kept pushing myself out, but your method of finding a way could be different. If you want, there are therapists and psychology consultants out there, unfortunately, I don’t know their names. Just try some popular institutes like Sumithrayo. They help on these too. Or at least will direct you the right way.
So don’t worry, it’s ok to be an introvert and keep trying to socialize.
One more thing to note is that being an extrovert is not essential to having a winning life. You need to get the best out of yourself. Don’t stick in the same place blaming yourself or the system. If you don’t fit in, change the place or the path or the stream. You will find that you can excel one day. Keep trying!
