Tunnel No. 18 (1054ft @225.89 km) is a notable tunnel at Pattipola which resides on the border of Central and Uva provinces and also according to a belief, it’s situated on the margin of Sri Lanka’s wet zone and dry zone, which seems to be logical.

Tunnel No. 5A (1364ft @94.34 km) and 9A (622ft @102.21 km) tunnels were built after identifying possible danger of existed track before.

No. 1 (581ft @52.40 km) and 1A (400ft @52.40 km) is twin tunnels which resides side by side on adjacent tracks near Botale. So it can be counted as a single when counting number of tunnels on the track.

Other than those on Main Line there are two small tunnels on Coastal line (191ft) and Matale Line (168ft). And soon there will be the longest railway tunnel in Sri Lanka near Beliatta on ‘Hambantota extension’.
